Design of Variable Structure Control Power System Stabilizer using Global Optimization

چکیده

This paper presents an alternate approach for designing power system stabilizers (PSS) based on variable structure control to enhance small signal stability of Single Machine Infinite-Bus Power System (SMIB). The state feedback gains and switching surface have been tuned using Global Optimization (multistart clustering GO) for an Eigen value based performance index. The robustness of the proposed variable structure control (VSC) is validated by carrying out simulations under various loading conditions of the system operation. The proposed VSC damps out power angle oscillations with reduced overshoots and quick settling time as compared to when SMIB system is without PSS.
